Faster Construction of High Speed Rail Lines Called by Local Lawmakers
Local lawmakers are calling for the faster construction of the Ganzhou Shenzhen High Speed Rail Line that connects Shenzhen with the northeastern cities of Guangdong province and in Ganzhou. The new line will enhance cooperation between the cities around the Pearl River Delta and the northeastern Guangdong cities and at the same time boost economy in the region.
The Xiamen Shenzhen high speed rail lies just east of Shenzhen and the Shenzhen Maoming High Speed Rail in the west. The north south rail to Jiangxi is under construction and will be stimulating the economy in the northeastern Guangdong and will bring Jiangxi and Shenzhen closer. The Ganzhou Shenzhen High Speed Rail will be a part of the high speed Nanchang Shenzhen line that stretches 880 kilometers long from north of Nanchang to south of Shenzhen and will also cut travel time to less than four hours.
Guangdong has listed the Ganzhou Shenzhen line as part of the 2011 agenda and Shenzhen Mayor Xu Qin has asked for the acceleration of the construction of the line in 2012 during the legislature annual session. And at the last provincial session the construction of the Ganzhou Shenzhen line will start in 2015 and is set to be finished by 2020. Meanwhile the construction of the Shenzhen Maoming line will start this year. Currently travel between Shenzhen and Maoming by train or bus is about eight hours once the new line will be finished the travel time will be brought down to three hours.
