Shenzhen to Work with Hong Kong on Landfill Issues
Shenzhen is now coordinating with the Hong Kong on the much debated plan of expanding the three landfills which include the one that lies just across Shenzhen Bay from Nanshan District. The plan triggered several protests from residents that are concern and will be affected by the air pollution.
Communication and cooperation between the two cities are in the works that will hopefully address the issue on the landfill problem. the issues on the landfill expansions have concerns on the lives the residents of the two cities, and during the recent annual plenary session of the Guangdong Province legislature around ten Shenzhen provincial legislature members has proposed that Hong Kong should stop its expansion of the landfill in Ta Kwu Ling just northeast of the new territories.
The said landfill is 2 kilometers away from Liantang in Shenzhen, and as of the moment a new border checkpoint is being constructed being built there. Having a landfill expansion near the area will have a negative impact on travelers and its residents.
Furthermore Shenzhen lawmakers have vowed to raise the issues on the next annual plenary session of the Shenzhen legislature that is scheduled on Thursday.
