Local Expats Invited to Observe in Annual Session of City Legislature
Several expats were invited to come and observe the opening of the annual session of the Shenzhen legislature that encourage city officials to further open up the city to foreign businesses. One unidentified American expat who works at a local office of a foreign company state that he felt honored that he was invited to come and observe at the meeting, he even gave suggestions that the government must introduce more foreign investments in the city.
Its great that the city is introducing foreign talent, still a greater degree is needed in opening up is encouraged that will offer preferential policies for foreign capital. The deputy consul for Mexico that is based in Guangzhou was impressed with the city’s goal of a 10 percent GDP goal for 2014 and he also was impressed by the local government effort in fighting corruption, the increase in the internationalization by creating cooperative programs with Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and the building of expatriate communities. He was also impressed in the strong investment made in education, arts, innovation and cultural events.
Shenzhen is now embracing greater internationalization by allowing expats to know what is going around in the city and at the same time understand what the government is planning to do for its expatriate community.
For this year’s session eighteen consuls and executives from 14 foreign companies were invited. Furthermore the city has been initiating exchange programs for foreign cities in the past couple of years in promoting internationalization while increasing its global presence.
