Police to Increase Fines in Effort to Control Illegal Parking in Liantang

Police to Increase Fines in Effort to Control Illegal Parking in LiangtangDuring the course of the Spring and Lantern Festival period, the Shenzhen police will be issuing fines of up to 500 yuan to drivers that are parked illegally on the four roads in the Liantang are of Luohu namely Guowei, Xinhu, Pengxing and Lianting roads from 7 am until 5 pm.

The decision to impose heavier fines was to ensure smoother traffic from and to Fairy Lake Botanical Gardens and to Hongfa Temple as a majority of Chinese people are visiting to seek blessings during the start of the lunar New Year.

SHENZHEN police will issue fines of 500 yuan (US$82) to drivers who park illegally on four roads in the Liantang area of Luohu District Pengxing, Guowei, Xinhu and Liantang roads between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival holiday period.  Traffic police will be imposing these traffic controls on roads going to Fairy Lake Botanical Garden during the Spring Festival Eve which starts today and vehicles with permits are only allowed to enter the park. Around 300,000 people are expected to visit the Hongfa Temple and Liantang is the second area in the city to impose such fines after Shenzhen International Airport. Also traffic police are issuing a 200 yuan fine to those caught illegally parking on roadside in the city.

Traffic regulations are allowing traffic police to impose fines of 200 yuan up to 2,000 yuan on vehicles caught parking illegally on roadsides or are obstructing vehicles and pedestrians. Although the heavier fines will not solve the problems since drivers park on roadsides just because there are no place to park. The best solution is to tow the vehicles and fine drivers.

Transportation commission will increase the number of buses to Liangtang and Dawang during the Spring Festival holiday. During the two week pre festival the Shenzhen traffic police has recorded more than 100 violations such as overloading and speeding.
