Several Cities to See Heavy Air Pollution on the Eve of the Spring Festival
The Ministry of Environmental Protection of China announced that a lot of cities will be hit by heavy air pollution during the eve of the Spring Festival because of unfavorable weather conditions and because of fireworks. Among the monitored 161 cities 68 will be hit by the predicted heavy pollution while 16 suffer severe air pollution.
The Beijing Municipal Environmental center stated earlier that the city’s air quality on the eve of the Spring Festival will be better compared to last year as lesser fireworks will be set off this year. But the Chinese capital along with the Tianjin Municipality, Yangtze River Delta and Hebei province is still rated as heavily polluted as these provinces is yet to ban fireworks to control its air pollution problem.
An official for the Ministry if Environmental Protection said that in the northern Beijing/Tianjin and Hebei region will suffer from moderate to heavy air pollution on February 1 because of unfavorable atmospheric conditions. Then on February 2 cold air from the south will help in blowing away pollution sources which in turn will improve air quality in Beijing.
