Survey Shows Fewer People Traveling Home for the Holidays
Based on a recent survey that the cost of going home for the holidays for the Spring Festival acts as a deterrent. Eighty percent of the respondents that responded to the survey conducted by Yangcheng Evening News stated that the costs they were going to spend for their trip home were more than their monthly salary.
Opinion of more than 600 residents said that finances are one of their concerns when they do take the trip and visit their families. Findings on the same survey in a different city showed that 40 percent of the respondents that the cost of returning home as one of the reasons as well. The survey was taken from four categories working in the fields as migrant workers, white collar workers, public servants and people working on other fields.
The survey was also shown that the respondents only had a travelling budget for the holidays between 5,000 to 10,000 yuan. The respondents say that the costs where either more or equal to their monthly salary. Major costs of the travels falls on tickets, gifts and cash that are given to parents and children. Some also cited that the social schedules take up their time giving them no chance to rest and relax during the holidays.
