Fireworks Celebration Limited as City Imposes Fireworks Ban
Firecrackers in Shenzhen and are only allowed on a case to case basis, still this didn’t stopped people from setting of a few fireworks that was heard across the city thus getting complaints from some residents.
The fireworks ban was meant to discourage people from doing the traditional practice because of the increased density of the city’s population and the fast growing high rise buildings. Hospitals in the city treated patients that were injured by fireworks with most of the injuries were in arms and face, and some patients had eye injuries.
To further deter people from setting of fireworks police and police cars were deployed in the city to catch anyone using fireworks,. Fireworks were set of in urban villages, but there were reports that fireworks were set off in high end residential areas. Also police find it hard to catch those who are setting off the fire crackers since it happens for a short time.
Regulations showed that offenders caught will be subjected to fines and will be detained for 15 days. Many cities have lifted their ban on firecrackers for festivals like the Spring Festival and Mid Autumn Festival still a majority of the city residents are in favor of banning fireworks. Setting of fireworks creates smoke and waste, it causes damage to the environment, fireworks can also create fire risks, injuries and even casualties.
The Chinese have been setting off fireworks for hundreds of years to ward of evil spirits, implementing a ban is unrealistic and create issues on the Chinese age old custom and traditions.
