Demand for Workers is High Especially after the Spring Festival

Demand for Workers is High Especially after the Spring FestivalShenzhen employers are still having a hard time looking for or hiring blue collar workers, especially in the services industry in need of restaurant waiters or waitresses. A recent job fair that was held over the weekend have shown these problems. Shenzhen minimum wage is now the highest among Chinese cities, but even with this increase many employers have noticed that the wages of local blue collar workers are on par with those of white collar administrators.

Some employers are saying that almost eighty percent of their staff has yet to return from their hometowns and that they are now in the process of hiring new staff. Companies used to hire women under 35 years old with several years of experience but have been forced in recent years to hire just about anybody to fill a position to get the work done.

Officials from the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau said that the demand for workers is high especially after the Spring Festival. But reports have shown that the shortage is the same with the past several years. The bureau hopes that the labor shortage will be relieved after more workers return from celebrating the Lunar New Year.
