Snowstorms to Affect Residents Traveling Home from the Holidays

Snowstorms to Affect Residents Traveling Home from the HolidaysThe National Meteorological Center issued a yellow alert for blizzards as snowstorms is said to affect millions of holiday travelers as they travel back home to work after the Spring Festival holidays. Snowstorms are predicted to hit the provinces of Henan, Anhui, Jaingsu and Hubei with snow in some regions to be 20 centimeters thick.

The snowstorm coincides with the final day of the Spring Festival the most important occasion of most family reunions in China in which as millions of people will be returning home for work from their hometowns. Traffic management in eight provinces has launched an emergency response system that will ensure road traffic safety under extreme weather as highways in these provinces were either partially or fully closed. High Speed trains were also forced to operate under lower speeds in snowy weather to prevent accidents.

In South Guangdong Province around 700,000 passengers are expected to travel by train and so far around 100 trains have been delayed due to rain or snow along regular and high speed railway lines running between Guangzhou and Beijing. To prevent delays 100 diesel locomotives and 90 electric generators are on standby to support transport.
