Fewer Cases of Traffic Incidents Reported during the Holidays
Traffic police reported around 3,000 cases of car accidents and traffic congestion during the Spring Festival holidays a decrease of 7 percent compared to last year’s holiday. Most of the traffic congestion reports came from the eastern coastal areas of Shenzhen. during the holiday more than a million cars left Shenzhen and around 400,000 car owners didn’t drive. And 356,000 vehicles that are registered outside of Shenzhen came into the city for the holidays.
Traffic flowing on major roads from Binhai, Beihuan and Binhe boulevards has increased by 18 percent or around 400,000 vehicles during the holidays. 500,000 people have visited the Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden wherein the number of vehicles dropped around half to 4,000 a day due to the traffic controls that were implemented. The implementation of the national toll free policy on 13 regional expressways assisted drivers and help them save around 60 million yuan on toll fees during the 4 million trips made during the holiday week.
During the holiday the police apprehended and detained seven drivers for drunk driving. And in a separate issue the Bao’an district transportation bureau operated three nighttime bus routes from 9 pm until 2 am to accommodate travelers returning to the city after the holidays. The three bus routes link the Shiyang and Songgang bus terminals with the central Vanguard supermarket in Nantou and Bao’an checkpoints.
