Bad Weather Causes Heavy Traffic on City Expressways
Heavy congestion was seen on trunk roads including Fulong Road, Nigang Road, Yanhe Road and Meilin and Buji Checkpoints at rush hours due to wet weather and to people returning to work after the Spring Festival holiday. Meilin Checkpoint seen more than 4,000 vehicles passing per hour from 7 am until 9 am.
The city also received reports on congestions which included 61 reports that were cause by traffic accidents. These prompted police to remind drivers to follow traffic rules to and to keep a safe distance in between vehicles to prevent accidents due to slippery roads and low visibility. Light rain is said to continue in the city until Thursday and temperatures can go down to 5 degrees Celsius which is said to be the coldest temperature to hit the city this year.
Temperatures in the northern and mountainous areas will fall to 3 degrees Celsius which prompted the city meteorological observatory to issue a yellow level cold weather warning to orange. Wet weather and heavy fog also poses a challenge to residents driving home to the city. local police have already reported several accidents in several sections of the Beijing Zhuhai Expressway in the Guangdong province and at Shenzhen Shantou expressway that caused congestion.
Inbound travel peak will last until the Lantern Festival on Friday and the Shenzhen North railway Station is reporting around 105,000 passengers taking the train in traveling prompting the Guangzhou railway Goup Corp. to add 18 temporary trains to ply the Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan route to divert passengers at the Guangzhou Railway Station.
