Li Na Advanced to the No. 2 Spot in the Asian World Record
China’s Li Na advanced to the No. 2 spot in the Asian world record along with Peng Shuai was rate to the top of the women’s doubles player giving Chinese tennis its biggest boost in the new world rankings. Li who won her second Grand Slam title at the Australian Open lat month underlines her status as the best Asian player by ranked second behind Serena Williams
Her success is a huge plus for the women’s tennis that placed a big bet in Asia by planning several tournaments in the regions this year including that one in Wuhan. What both women did to their careers continue to set milestones for tennis in China. Li’s rise in the rankings came with a bump as she was ousted during the third round of the Qatar Open last week by Petra Cetkowska.
Peng Shuai also became the first Chinese player to reach the top of the doubles ranking together with her Taiwanese partner Hsieh Su-Wei.
The new singles rankings now show Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska lies third with Belarusian Victoria Azarenka fourth and Russian star Maria Sharapova fifth. Serena Williams still takes the top spot followed by Li Na in Second. Jelena Jankovic Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber, Simona Halep, and Sara Errani round out the remaining top 10 in the rankings.
