Additional Work on Metro Rail Lines to Start SoonThe city is planning to start construction of the Metro Lines 6 and 8 before the year ends and line 10 during the first half of 2015. The construction plans are based on the third phase of the city’s rail construction plans that has been handed to the national planning authority for final approval.

The head of the Shenzhen rail office Li Fumin stated on a Radio call in program that the city also included in its plans to extend the existing Shekou Line, Longhua Line and the Longgang Line. The added extensions will add an additional 83 kilometers to the subway network of the city. Line 10 will start in Futian Checkpoints and ends at Pinghu in Longgang. The 28 kilometer long line will have 23 stations and is hoped to fix the commuting problems from Longgang going to downtown Shenzhen and is also hoped to relive the congestion in Meilin Checkpoint as well.

Further plans calls for the upgrade of the Shekou line to be expanded to the east to Liantang. The Longgang Line will be extend south going to the Futian Bonded Area and to the North to Pingdi Subdistrict is extended north to Guanlan. The Huanzhong Line is extended south to Chiwan in Shekou in Nanshan. Line 6 extends to the south going to the Science Museum Station found along Shangbu Road in Luohu and Line 9 will extend going to the east to Qianhai.

For the moment the is fast preparing the construction of Line 6 that is scheduled to start this year and will connect to Shenzhen North Railway Station and Line 8 will link the International trade Plaza in Louhu with Xiaomeisha in Yantian. HKMTR, Shenzhen Metro and the China Construction Group Corp. are setting up a company that will operate Line 6. The city plans to use maglev or magnetic levitation technology for line 8 that will be serving the Xiaomeisha area.

178 kilometers of Metro rail has already been constructed along five lines that serves about 3.4 million passengers day. Meanwhile the construction of line 7, 9 and 11 is expected to be completed in 2016. The third phase of the rail projects will add an additional 254 kilometers of rail to the city.
