Alain Perrin Chosen as New Manager of China’s National Soccer Team
Former Lyon and Marseille boss Alain Perrin was chosen by China’s soccer authorities to manage the country’s national team. The Chinese Football Association vice president Yu Hongchen that the national team has been a poor performer in the recent years and is currently ranked 88th in the world by FIFA. Last year’s Spanish coach Antonio Camacho was fired after a string of defeat which included a humiliating lose to Thailand.
The disappointing results from the national team are in contract to the success of China in other sports which cause frustration among the millions of Chinese soccer fans. Some say the grass roots support for the game and corruption are blamed for the lackluster of the sport. China last qualified for the World Cup finals once in 2002, and the team was eliminated during the group stage without even scoring a single goal.
The new coach Perrin has led the soccer team Lyon to a league and a cup in 2008 has also managed Saint- Etienne. In 2005 he also had a n eight month stint with English side Portsmouth wherein he got four victories in 20 premiership matches. His last managed a team in Qatar that will be playing host to the 2022 World Cup.
The China Football Association s working hard to attempt to raise the awareness in the domestic soccer league by making David Beckham its sports ambassador. The recently retired Beckham visiting China several time and officials hopes that his presence can help fix the image of the soccer league in China.
