Inspections at Venues Where Smoking is Prevalent to be Strengthen
Local law enforcement is strengthening inspections at venues wherein smoking is abundant after last week’s implementation of a tougher smoking control. These venues consist of offices, internet cafes, stock brokerage and small and medium sized restaurants.
the city’s health and family planning commission will be assuming primary responsibility in the implementation of the smoking controls and will be assisted by six other government departments. Smoking has also been banned in other locations such as indoor workplaces, public transportation and open public places. Departments such as the transportation department will be in charge with enforcing the smoking controls in all public transportation, the urban management department controls smoking in parks and rail stations and the market supervision department is taking care of enforcing the control in eateries, markets and shops. Some say that the new smoking regulation is the strictest measure to be implemented on the Chinese mainland as fines imposed ranges from 50to 500 yuan.
Operators of non smoking venues are asked to tell smokers to remind them of the new smoking regulations and to ask them to refrain from smoking especially in restaurants. If these smokers refuse to stop smoking, owners’ f these establishments can ask them to leave. The owners can also seek the help of related government departments in asking smokers to leave. Venues that fail to prevent smoking can be reported and operators will be fined 30,000 yuan.
No smoking signs are posted in all restaurants and smoking restrictions for leisure and entertainment venues will be implemented before December 2016.
