Women Expats Gather to Celebrate International Women’s Day
Around a hundred female expats coming from local social groups, communities and companies have gathered at a function at the Marco Polo Shenzhen as part of their celebration of International Women’s Day. Well known top females in the city were invited to talk about their work, daily lives and their cultural experiences.
Chinese –American Betty Jin who was born in Shanghai but raised in the US and is part of the ride sharing startup Uber moved to Shenzhen last year to run Uber’s local office shared her frustrations with the societal expectation of most Chinese elders in women getting married before getting old. She said that single women older than 27 years of age are considered leftover women asking why they are more focused on careers and working in different cities than finding boyfriends.
During the fashion show some special guests have perform, also top image consultant for Color Me Beautiful Malini Hemlani also shared her knowledge of makeup, colors and styles for women. She said that personality is one of the decided factor of your style since each women has unique traits and must be comfortable with her body image.
The event was hosted by BSV Events and Publications and a part of ticket sales will be donated to Captivating International to assist in several charitable missions in western China, in helping women and children to receive education and proper medical care.
