Budget Grocery Stores Opened to Help Low Income Families
Several cities in Guangdong are encouraged to open budget grocery store to help low income families who are living in the community to purchase their daily needs and food items. Shenzhen and Guangzhou are two of the cities asked to do so. By the end of this year around 300 budget grocery stores will be open.
These budget grocery stores will be selling food at low prices, and by 2013 a network of grocery stores will cover the province. in a statement released by pricing and agricultural authorities, the grocery stores must be built in cities with big population of low income families. A pilot store has already been opened in Guangzhou that sells eggs, oil, vegetables and meat at prices that is 20 percent lower that found in supermarkets.
Since Shenzhen and Guangzhou rely on agricultural products from other cities, they could be affected by the price changes making them the prime spot for building these budget groceries. Since the program is still in its primary stage, it needs all the support and help it can from the government, agricultural producers market operators and supermarkets. Store operators will be subsidized by the government but details are not clear yet.
