Shenzhen Joins Celebration of International Earth Hour
Part of the city celebration is an acoustic concert at the Civic Center Square, marking the beginning of Shenzhen’s Low Carbon Year campaign. An open letter to the public were the the city’s environmental protection authority invites all to turn off all lights for an hour in offices and homes. They also encourages people to unplug any appliances such as chargers, TVs, microwaves, computers and printers.
A volunteer association will organize a countdown and will be inviting environmentalists to share their experiences. That association hopes that residents and companies will participate to help them send a strong message during Earth Hour that citizens of the Globalized world should care about the planet’s future.
Switching off any appliances is a simple act that can make a big difference. Hotels have already supported the act by turning off any unnecessary lights. A students environmental protection organization have also arranged for students from eight schools to participate in a series of environmental activities.
