Venues told to Add More Signs that will Lead Smokers to Outdoor Smoking Areas
Since the revised smoking regulations took effect on March 1st, the Shenzhen health inspection bureau have inspected and issued warnings to more than 69 venues around the city. These violating venues either have no separate outdoor smoking area or have no signs that pointed to the smoking area.
The new smoking regulation has banned smoking in public buildings, indoor workplaces, public transportation, restaurants, and entertainment and leisure venues as well. Teahouses, karaoke venues and massages parlors are allowed to keep its separate smoking areas indoors until the end of December of 2016. Staff from the city smoking control offices will again visit these venues in a few weeks to check for compliance.
Meanwhile several residents were complaining that there were no directions that led them to smoking areas in these smoking restricted places which led to people to smoke outside the entrances of these venues. A adviser for the non smoking promotion program said that the regulations has required these venues to place clear signs in all of its non smoking areas and to place signs that will lead people to their smoking areas and since the regulations have just taken effect, several of the details are still being finalized.
