Shenzhen to Increase Cooperation Ties with Saint Entienne
The city vice mayor has expressed the willingness of the city to increase its collaborations with Saint Etienne a city in France during a meeting yesterday morning. Vice Mayor Wu Yihuan hopes that both cities will carry out several more projects that involves creative design and talent exchanges while meeting the vice mayor of Saint Etienne Francoise Gourbeyre who is also a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Wu also said that Shenzhen is one of the city that is worth collaborating, since it has a big creative design market that has 6,000 design businesses and thousand of professional designers. The creative industries in Shenzhen accounted for 9 percent of the GDP of the city. Wu was impressed with Saint Etienne’s performance during this year’s Shenzhen Day which the city was awarded with three Merit Awards winners and has generated a lot of submissions. Wu believe that there are a lot more designers in Saint Etienne to be discovered and is hoping that both cities can exchange more ideas and participate in design projects with Shenzhen professionals.
Saint Etienne vice mayor Gourbeyre responded by promising more cooperation between the two cities will be realized in the future through other events similar to Shenzhen Day. Gourbeyre said that Shenzhen is a very young city with potential in innovation. Its vitality showcases left a deeper impression on Saint Entienne as they had a pleasant time in working with members of the Shenzhen Creative and Cultural Center as they witnessed the work that Shenzhen has done with other cities in the UNESCO network
Gourbeyre also added that developing its design industry is the city’s primary focus so that they can support young designers and create a home for a design school.
