Shenzhen Adopts Second Child Policy

Shenzhen Adopts Second Child PolicyCouples in Shenzhen can now have two children provided that one of the parents was born an only child. Based on the policy that was adopted by the city health and family planning commission stated that the city will now accept second child application from all qualified couples after the implementation of the policy by the Guangdong provincial family planning authority.

The policy states that if either parents is an only child and the couple is planning to have another child, the couple can apply at the nearest subdistrict family planning officer where the mother have registered her permanent residency. Once their application is approved only then they can bear the second child. Mothers who are already pregnant with their second child must re apply for permission before June 30, if they give birth to their second child without the permission before June 30 the mother will be facing a fine of up to 2 percent of the social compensation fee which was around 240,000 yuan as of last year.

The adoption of the second child policy was a welcome sight to many of Shenzhen residents, one local resident said that even though he and his wife are still planning to have children they are more than happy to have two. He said that he was a only child and he knows how lonely it can be. While another couple who are eligible for a second child don’t have plans to have one for the next few years.
