Residents Told to Take Precautions as Heavy Rain Hits the CityStrong rains have been felt around the city over the weekend causing delays or even cancellation of several flights out of Shenzhen. the heavy downpour also caused traffic and closures of several schools and coastal parks in the city. the heavy rain prompted the city meteorological observatory to issue its first red alert for rain storms in which the last one was announced in 2008.

Public schools were closed as the rainstorm alert is still in effect and local government officials have urged offices to let employees go home earlier of to take the day off. Several theme parks including the Happy Valley theme park and Dameisha Beach Park were closed due to heavy rain which caused traffic on roads leading to Dameisha.

Monitoring stations has recorded a 195 millimeters of rainfall from Sunday night until Monday morning. Around 115 millimeters recorded happened within an hour at the Mangrove Nature Reserve observation station in Futian. Heavy rain is still expected to continue in Guangdong including parts of Taiwan until Thursday.
