Expressways Sees Rush of Drivers Coming Home from the Holidays
Heavy traffic was seen on local expressways are drivers rushed home after the last day of the Qingming Festival as traffic police expected the return travel peak between 8 pm until 2 am. The traffic started yesterday afternoon on roads that linked Shenzhen with neighboring cities of Huizhou and Dongguan.
The Humen section of the Guangzhou Shenzhen Expressway was severely congested, although traffic conditions on the Guangzhou Shenzhen Riverside Expressway was better. Traffic at the Shenshan expressway was also heavy as resident that traveled to visit their ancestors took a quick vacation after returning from Fujian Province and in Shantou.
Traffic command center has received around 4,880 reports on traffic incidents although out the holiday which is an increase of 51 percent compared to last’s years Tomb Sweeping Day. Also around 2,200 accidents were reported which is an increase of 33 percent and 700 reports on traffic congestions.
Shenzhen checkpoints seen a surge of returning travelers as well and Luohu Checkpoint has opened all of its inspection lanes which in turn created waiting times of up to eight minutes for returning travelers that passes through the checkpoints.
