E-Commerce Industry Reports Substantial Growth for 2013
The city e-commerce industry has generated more than 951 billion yuan in domestic and international transaction for 2013 which is 9 percent of the national total and a 51 percent increase compared to 2012. In September 2009 Shenzhen was proclaimed as a model city for e-commerce development and since then the city has drafted several work plans that is intended to bolster local internet development and e-commerce industries that has a yearly financial support of 500 million yuan.
There are more than 10 industrial parks found in Shenzhen where e-commerce businesses come and gather. These parks cover more than 2,500,000 sqaure meters and are home to a thousand e-commerce and internet companies. Several well known giants in the e-commerce business namely OneTouch, Tencent and online trading platforms are leading the development of the e-commerce trade nationwide.
Favorable industrial development and possible business potential are attracting e-commerce giants to create branches of headquarters in Shenzhen. As of the moment Alibaba Group is constructing a southern China office, a international operations center and its cloud computing research and development center in Shenzhen, and Baidu is also building its international headquarters and research and development center in Shenzhen as well.
