More than 30,000 Wild Animals Rescued by City’s Wildlife Rescue Center
More than 30,000 wild animals have been rescued last year mostly from illegal animal traders by the Shenzhen Wild Animal Rescue Center which are now under their protecting. The center located in Henggang Subdistrict in Xikeng Village just adjacent to Wutong Mountain also includes a natural isolated area, breeding area and a treatment area.
Most of the 30,000 wild animals that were rescued by the center are under a international or national protection which is covered and protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna. Half of the animals that were rescued from illegal traders and the center also received around 500 calls from local residents asking for help in rescuing wild animals in which 300 of the calls resulted in rescued animals. Most of the wild animals that were rescued were either wounded or disabled as these animals were poorly treated.
Authorities are asking residents to never buy wild animals for traders whether legally or illegally. Residents are also advised not to attempt to rescue the wild animals on their own to avoid being bitten, infected or scratched.
