Insurance Law Gives Foreign Workers More Insurance Benefits
According to a new social insurance law, China is already planning to allow foreign employees to apply for insurance. Expatriates are now eligible for social insurance benefits just as Chinese nationals are.
The deputy director of the social security center said that the new law specifies all workers have the right to the five types of insurance, basic endowment, basic medical, work injury, maternity insurance and unemployment. Once the National People’s Congress Standing Committee adopts the law it will then take effect in July.
The insurance law also ensures that workers from different countries must sign a bilateral social insurance, so that employers in China can avoid paying two types of premiums. In recent years more and more foreign workers are entering the work force in China. The workers are mostly from Southeast Asian countries and have already found work in the labor intensive areas and large cities. Before the new law, all foreign workers were only limited to get insurance that will cover work injury and basic medical.
