New Government Program Allows Health Departments More Free Services
The Ministry of Health is allocating 30 billion yuan to fund basic public health services, under the MOH the money will be used in upgrading ten programs and more health and community health departments can offer more free public health services.
The new program provides basic health care for children under the age of six free regular physical examinations and vaccinations. The previous programs only gave these benefits to children under the age of three. The government funded programs can provide each child free basic health services till they turn six. Each program covers growth evaluation and guidance for their growth. Children under the age of six can also get the 14 types of vaccinations free of charge.
Pregnant women and residents over the age of 65 can also avail of the free basic services offered by the program. Pregnant women can get five visits for free before giving birth. This includes comprehensive physical examinations including gynecological examination, urine and blood test. People 65 and over can avail of one free visit to get a health assessment and comprehensive physical examination.
The funds will also be used in improving the food safety monitoring system in medical institutions found in communities, villages and towns.
