City Approves More Than a Thousand Second Child Application
For the past month around 2,000 Shenzhen families have requested for an official approval to have a second child accounting for 6 percent of the total qualified families based on a survey made by the city health and family planning commission. Shenzhen recently adopted the second child policy last march which permits qualified local couples to have a second child if one of the parents was born a only child.
During a recent survey showed that 80 percent or 40,000 of the qualified families are willing to have a second child but only 6 percent or 1,975 families have submitted their applications as of April, and out of those applications around 1,115 were approved. 350 applications in Futian were approved while 256 applications in Nanshan were approved as well. When combined it accounts for at least one half of the total amount approved applicants. Four applications were approving in Pingshan New Area while 5 applications in Dapeng New Area the least amount of approved applications in the city.
Officials say that the approvals rates differ due to varying demographic compositions of each district. Since younger families are living in Futian and Nanshan districts. Among the 1,115 approved families allowed to have a second child, 690 of the mothers are already pregnant and 31 of them have already given birth. Families with expectant mothers or have give nbirth are warned that they must apply for permission before June 30 and if they do not obtain a permission they will be fined of up to 2 percent social compensation fee.
