High Power Electric Transmission Grid to be Constructed
China is now planning to create the largest high power electricity transmission network as the Central Government has already given its approval to the State Grid Corp of China to go ahead with their plans for the construction of 12 power lines that will connect the energy rich interior to the heavily industrialized coastal areas. The construction of the network is said to be at the cost of 210 billion yuan.
The twelve projects will include eight ultra high voltage lines that will transmit and offer advantages over conventional power lines through transmission of electricity over longer distances with greater efficiency. These ultra high voltage power lines are six times more energy efficient that the conventional power lines. Even with some concerns on the transmission project and the vulnerability of a boarder network to a system wide failures. As emerging technologies are being hailed as the ultimate cleaner and more efficient way of delivering electricity all across the country.
The State Grid Corp. has also stated that these ultra high voltage power lines reduces the density of PM2.5 particles that are said to be dangerous to the human health in the central and eastern regions. Also it will help cut down coal consumption by 200 tons per year. Once completed the power grid will allow the country to relocate several of its power plants from populated areas to remote inland areas since these ultra high voltage lines will transmit power over long distances thre times greater than conventional power lines. These ultra high voltage lines will stretch from Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Yunnan, Shanxi to Beijing and to Hebei, Tianjin and the Pearl River and Yangtze deltas.
