Shenzhen Airport Prepares for Maiden Flight of China Southern New A380 Plane
Airbus 380 the largest passenger aircraft in the world will be marking a historic moment for Shenzhen airport as it anticipates the maiden flight of the aircraft and will make the city the third Chinese city to house the aircraft just after Beijing and Guangzhou. The airport’s new terminal started operations a few months ago along with the second runway can provided technical support for the jumbo plane. The jumbo is a gigantic aircraft that have twin decks which equals to three tennis courts.
A rush of air passengers from Shenzhen and Beijing is giving good market support which makes the Shenzhen Beijing route the second busiest air route for China Southern Airlines the largest carrier in China. The A380 will be using the second runway which is 3,800 meters long and 60 meters wide. The runway was constructed to cater code 4F aircrafts such as the A380. The airport has also designed a special boarding area that has more than 300 seats and four boarding gates. Other equipment that will be used for the aircraft such as loading and unloading cargo equipment will also be use. The Gaungzhou Baiyun International Airport is chosen to be the standby airport for the A380 airplane.
Passenger turnover in 2013 reached 30 million and with the new terminal that was operational since November of last year, passenger turnover is expected to reach 45 million in a year. According to a China Southern Airlines manager said that Shenzhen is one of their major markets and the company plans to open more domestic and international routes flying out of Shenzhen. China Southern Airlines will be the first air carrier to be operating the A380 jumbo aircraft in China.
