City to be Hit with More Heavy Rain until the Weekend
From today until Friday heavy rains is said to hit the city again bringing the total rainy days in the city up to 18 for this month alone. The rainfall is said to be the heaviest from this afternoon and tomorrow night. The city meteorological observatory said that rainfall in some area might exceed 250 millimeters today until Friday.
The rainfall will be accompanied by lighting as rainfall started falling by 3 pm yesterday which was followed by a red alert for heavy rain that as issued by the observatory. Which orders schools to be closed, but was then downgraded to yellow as of 4:30 pm yesterday. Most rainfall occurred in Shiyan where rainfall reached 183 millimeters in just six hours. The disaster relief department received a lot of reports on water logging in more than 30 locations mainly in Shiyuan, Longhua and Guanlan as the downpour caused traffic jams on major roads as well.
The rainfall has also affect once again by the airlines at the Shenzhen International Airport, as many of the planes that was suppose to land was diverted to Guangzhou. As of now passengers are still waiting at Guangzhou airport for any news from China Southern Airlines whether their planes can now take off and land in Shenzhen as the city entered a period of concentrated precipitation and rainfall can occur at anytime.
The observatory recorded 863 millimeters of rainfall for this month as of Monday which isa 93 percent increase compared to the same period last year and residents are asked to increase the level of the awareness to keep themselves safe. The observatory is also planning a overall plan that deals with the flood prevention and drainage plans of the city as they are planning to improve 50 locations that are supseptible to water logging.
