City to Turn More Locations in Model Areas for Garbage Reduction and ClassificationAccording to the city urban management bureau the city is planning to turn 500 locations into model areas for garbage classification and reduction this year. These areas consists on mainly work places of government departments, State owned enterprises and public institutions. Government department will include the disciplinary inspection commission, the municipal general office and the legislature. These locations will be spread out all across the districts and new areas as well.

People working in these areas will be asked to create garbage classification information more electronically available, and to use the both sides of the paper, lessen food waste in canteens and as much as possible use fewer disposable office supplies. District governments and the urban management bureau will also do regular checks and evaluation using a 100 point scale. Areas receiving scores of 75 or lower will fail the check. An example of the 100 point scale is when a company is using disposable cups they will be deducted 5 points, using one side of a paper will lead to a 2 point deduction.

Futian District has already chosen around 600 residential properties that will pilot recycling facilities, furthermore these residential properties can apply to become a model property for waste classification and reduction. Properties that pass a government check will get the chance to win awards from the urban management bureau.
