The hospital will be the first Hong Kong funded hospitals in the Chinese mainland to be included on the government’s medical insurance coverage.

Dennis Lam previously served as the dean and professor for the ophthalmology and visual sciences department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and now he is the director of the national ophthalmology laboratory in Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou and he also serves as the honorary president of the university’s ophthalmology hospital. Lam was named as one of the most influential figures in the ophthalmology and awarded the senior achievement award in the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology.

Based on doctor’s profiles the hospital usually charges between 500 to 800 yuan a patient and this fee already includes treatment, registration and basic checks. Patients can also use their medical insurance cards in paying for treatment. Last year eye hospital received around 15,000 patients that came in for outpatient services and 1,500 visits for hospitalization.
