Transport Commission Working on Unifying Bicycle Rental System
The city transportation commission is now working on a plan that will unify public bicycle rental services all across the city using Shenzhentong cards before the year ends. This will allow more cyclists to borrow bicycles from one district and will be able to return it on a different district without any trouble.
After several years of construction in efforts to promote a low carbon development and finally solve commuting problems of residents as district governments in Longgang, Futian, Pingshan, Nanshan, and Longhua completed their bicycle rental systems. Although even when its finished problems still arises as riders were only able to use the bicycles within their communities or district where it’s rented. Residents are not allowed to borrow bicycles in one district and return it in another as operators are using different locking systems. Prices and fee calculations are also different in each district.
The transport commission is now planning to upgrade the bicycle rental system to be compatible with the Shenzhentong cards which is used in buses and Metro services. To unify the rental services the government will be upgrading the bicycle stands and fee systems in each district with the cost and actual need in mind.
Some doubt the unification of the bike rental system asking if it was worthwhile to have it unified with the Shenzhentong card. Some even say that unifying the payment system with the card should happen sooner and that the government should look into improving the system by constructing more rental stations by region.
