Tram System to be Constructed to Go with the Development of Universiade New Town
A tram transportation system is being planned by Longgang district and will be constructed in its Central Business District to meet the development of the planned Universiade New Town that is now waiting for approval from the city government. The tram system will run along Longxing Boulevard and Qinglin Road linking business center, offices and the university town.
Several local universities and from abroad signed joint programs with the district government to establish higher education in the Universiade New Town which is centrally located in the district. Universities will include the China-Russia University created by the Lomonosov Moscow State University in partnership with Beijing Institute of Technology. Harbin Institute of Technology has also created a joint program together with the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland and Jilin University is also planning to build a campus in the area. The universities found in the Universiade New Town will be shared several facilities, ranging from sports facilities, libraries, auditoriums, canteens and administration offices through a centralized layout.
The tram system is part of the district’s plan in developing the four major areas which includes the Huawei Science and Technology Town in Bantian, the Pinghu Finance and Modern Service Base and the International Low Carbon Town in Pingdi. A total of 15 billion yuan will be released for the construction of infrastructure in these four areas.
