Expressway Traffic Saw Minor Kinks as Tollgates were Unified
Once the toll collection system was unified on Guangdong expressways smoother traffic was seen on the first day it was implemented. Around 16 tollgates and 17 identification stations were scrapped during the unification. The unification of the tollgates was expected to improve the traffic efficiency which turns out successfully and drivers only need to pay one cumulative fee upon exiting.
However a little disorder was seen as some exits in several expressways were jammed as truck drivers didn’t know that they had to use the lanes designated for heavy vehicles. Further jam happen when truck drivers had to back their trucks away from the lanes that were intended for ordinary vehicles. At the He’ao tollgate not one single vehicle was seen and also at the Huiyan and Jihe expressways. Before large numbers of vehicles can be seen lining up the square to pay toll fees before passing. Lane fences have been removed and now vehicles can pas freely without paying
But upon reaching Bulong exit of the Shuiguan Expressway a long line of vehicle was seen in several number of lanes in the square fronting the tollgate as some cargo trucks were backing away from the lanes that were assigned for ordinary vehicles. While other cars were also seen backing out of lanes that was designated for vehicles to be weighed.
