New National V Standard Gasoline is Now Used In Cities near PRD
13 cities along the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong and Shenzhen are now using cleaner types of fuel starting today. The national V standard fuel the No. 92 and 95 gasolines which is equivalent to the Euro V standard of cleaner fuel is believed to reduce the amount pollutants in the air.
As the city piloted the use of the No. 92 and 95 gasolines since June, prices still remains unchanged with No. 92 gasoline at 7.86 yuan per liter and 8.52 yuan per liter for the No. 95 gasoline. Wholesale price of the National V standard is around 200-300 yuan a ton which is higher than the National IV standard and is expected to see an increase of 0.1 yuan per liter.
The 0.1 yuan increase will only mean that a driver will need to pay an additional 15 yuan a month or roughly 180 yuan a year which some say is not much of a burden. Drivers also agree that using cleaner fuel is a big help in preserving the air and the environment. The new national V gasoline standard also tightens the emission limit compared to the national IV standard.
Nitrogen oxide emission coming from lighter vehicles is reduced by 28 percent and its particles by 82 percent thus reducing the nitrogen oxide emission in the city by roughly 300,000 tons a year. The practice of using a cleaner fuel will be expanded across the whole province starting in October plus a higher quality diesel will also be in use by 2015.
