Pilot Program of Banning the Sales of Live Poultry to be Fully Implemented this July

Pilot Program of Banning the Sales of Live Poultry to be Fully Implemented this JulyThe city’s pilot program that will ban the selling of live poultry in Futian will be fully implemented by July 10. Yesterday was the frist day that the ban took effect, still some residents said that live poultry are still sold in some markets found in the district. To see the full effect of the ban the publicity department must set a good example and it should be planned properly and implemented in a stable manner.

Futian is planning to create more policies to further enhance the process of implementing the ban, but details are not yet clear and for far only one policy has been implemented which is the subsidy for live poultry vendors to push them into switching from selling freshly slaughtered poultry. Aside from the ban on selling live chickens, the pilot program is also centralizing slaughtering of poultry, mandatory refrigeration during delivery and increases the standards of the freshness of the chickens.

The ban will also apply to all farm produce markets, restaurants, supermarkets and other public places. The district will also tighten the application process for licenses to companies that are planning to provide refrigerates delivery services. Although no timetable has been released yet but the city will be expanding the ban to other districts namely Yantian, Nanshan and Luohu.
