Shenzhen Took Top Spot as Healthiest City in China
Out of the 280 major cities in China, Shenzhen was named one of the healthiest cities among all of them. This was based on a green paper that was studied and released by the research center of the Social Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The city tops the list based on its ecological environment and green economy. Shenzhen was the only city that has 50 billionaires listed on the Chinese mainland. It also has the second highest energy consumption per unit of Gross Domestic Product, just after Huangshan. Guangzhou got second place on the list of healthiest city, neighboring Zhuhai was seventh. The remain cities namely, Nanjing, Dalian, Shanghai,Wuxi, Hangzhou and Xiamen rounded of the top ten.
Beijing took the tenth spot based on its overall ecological conditions, with the city’s green coverage ratio which is the second highest in the country. But with the recent case of haze the city was ranked second to the last in terms of air quality. China began increasing the areas of green coverage in many of its major cities with an average of coverage in more than 116 cities to 40 percent for 2012.
