Public Hospitals to Start Issuing Patients with Digital Identification Codes

Public Hospitals to Start Issuing Patients with Digital Identification CodesBy early next year patients will be given their own digital identification codes when they see doctors at public hospitals in Shenzhen. this digital code will be able to record a patients personal information and medical records that will allow them to visit doctors and get medical treatment without the need of carrying paper clinical charts and test results.

The University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Hospital has already start to implement the digital code system this year which made it the first public hospital to use the digital code system. Meanwhile the Shenzhen No. 2 People’s Hospital started to use the digital code system last May with all inpatients given a waist strap that have a two dimension code after they are admitted to the hospital. Doctors and nurses then can access the patient’s medical information just the scanning the code. A spokesperson for the No. 2 People’s Hospital said that the hospital will try to make the entire process of hospitalization digitalized meaning that all information will be stored in computers for easy access.

By introducing digitalization in hospitals will greatly improve the hospital working efficiency and reduce errors. It will also make it easier to supervise operations as well. also by digitalizing information, residents can make appointments, consult doctors, read medical test results and manage their condition online.
