Drivers Parks Off Road to Avoid Paying Roadside Parking Fees
Several roadside parking rules took effect in several districts as of yesterday, still some drivers chose to park their vehicles in off road lots just to pay a lower price. According to Che Xiaoping a officer for the road safety management center said that prior to the implementation of the roadside parking fees, it was difficult and sometimes impossible to look for parking slots in Zhuzilin in Futian one of the four pilot areas for the roadside parking fee collection program. But as of yesterday morning parking spots alongside roads were vacant.
The new roadside parking fees are much higher than commercial parking lots and even in the central part of the city wherein a whole day parking in one of the four pilot areas costs 265 yuan. In these pilot areas roadside parking fees should be paid from 7:30 am to 9 pm each day, then on weekdays fees cost 5 yuan for the first half hour and 10 yuan for each following hour then. Aside from high cost of parking fee, drivers were complaining on the time consuming process of registering and adding money to accounts that will be used in paying the fees.
Drivers who are registering or adding cash to their accounts will not be fines for their first roadside parking offense due to the time consuming payment registration process. And even with media exposure ranging from television, radio and newspapers drivers were still not aware of the details. Drivers can easily register and add money to accounts using the mobile app Yitingche or logging on to www.szrtc.cn. Drivers can also pay using cash at designated locations such as convenience stores, newsstands and grocery stores.
