More Residents Traveling to Hong Kong to Swim in Public Pools
A number of Shenzhen swimmers are going to Hong Kong in hopes to enjoy the city’s safer and cheaper swimming pools. Unlike in Hong Kong it is much more expensive to go swimming in the public swimming pool in Shenzhen. Cost of going for a swim in a public pool in Hong Kong is around HK$17 on a weekday and HK$19 on weekends.
While swimming in a public swimming pool in Shenzhen usually costs 30 to 40 yuan which is twice the price to go swimming in Hong Kong. Furthermore the Shenzhen health authority inspected the 87 public swimming pools in the city and eight of these pools did not pass the water quality standards. And if one will chose to go swimming in hotel pools the costs could increase by the hundreds. Among the 14 hotels in the city nine of these hotels charges between 100 to 200 yuan with the cheapest hotel charging 60 yuan and the most expensive is at 450 yuan.
Some of the cheapest swimming pools in the city can be found in residential communities and charges between 10 to 20 yuan also public swimming pools in Shenzhen are uneven, a recent survey showed that there are 745 swimming pools in the city which covers an area of 500,000 square meters.
