Traffic Speed Increases as Roadside Parking Fees is Implemented
Traffic in the four pilot areas is moving 3 to 6 percent faster where roadside parking fees are being collected as the city is planning to curb traffic congestion and illegal parking in a few hotspots in the city. the transportation commission said that the traffic supervision said that traffic speeds on Zhuzilin No. 5 Road improved by 31 percent in the four days since the roadside parking fee were collected. As the collection fee program took effect in Tuesday around 40 roads in Futian CBD area, Zhuzilin, Tianbei and central Nanshan are all covered by the program.
Overall traffic speeds have improved around central areas since its implementation last Tuesday at 28 kilometers per hour a 3.5 percent increase compared to before, while traffic at Futian’s CBD area recorded an average speed of 30 kilometers a 5.7 percent increase, in Tianbei the traffic speed was 24 kilometers an increase of 4.8 percent and in central Nanshan the speed was 29 kilometer an 3.5 percent increase.
These improved traffic speeds have generated support for the program as well. residents said that the changes were great and good for the city and they hope that illegal parking will be controlled even further so traffic speeds can be further elevated.
