Construction of Expressway that Connects to Hong Kong Already on the WayThe planned first section of the East Transit Expressway which passes through Shenzhen and will connect the Shenzhen Shantou and Huizhou Yantian Expresways to Hong Kong has already started its construction. According to the city transport commission the road which is under construction will be a line that connect the expressway to city roads stating from Buxin road in Luohu then connect to the expressway in the East.

The construction will include a 1,380 meter of underground tunnel, ancillary works such as landscaping and municipal pipelines and a reconstruction project on Buxin Road. The road will run alongside the Shenzhen Reservoir and will have two Y-shaped underground tunnels passing under Tangpaishan Hill and Gudui Ridge in hopes to divert traffic. The tunnel passing under Tangpaishan Hill includes both a double arch section and large span sections. Part of the tunnels might reach 30 meters in width and will make it the widest tunnel section in China. the tunnels will also be the first underground interchanges as well.

The first phase of the tunnel construction focuses on the preparatory work of a section of Buxin Road ranging from plant relocation and creating underground pipelines. The new expressway also helps ease the traffic congestion in Downtown Shenzhen.
