Biennale to Feature Designs, Cooperation and Ideas from Shenzhen and Hong Kong Companies
From September until November the city will be having its first Shenzhen-Hong Kong Design Biennale. According to the Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association professionals coming from 40 design associations, academies and companies in Shenzhen and Hong Kong will gather and highlight their designs, look for cooperation and exchanges ideas. Event organizer say that this will be the largest event to be held between two cities design industries.
The biennale event will be featuring eight exhibitions and public events that will be held across the city, this will include OCT Bay, OCT Loft in Nanshan, OCT Art and Design Gallery and the Dalang Fashion Valley in Longhua New Area. Exhibitions includes a display of visual communications in design, new media and technology screening, a space themed installation and a Shenzhen – Hong Kong crossover design exhibition and creative products showcase.
Hong Kong design is more in the cutting edge and is more internationalized wherein Shenzhen designers can learn. The Pearl River Delta is one of China’s manufacturing base and is creating a big demand for demand, this also allow Hong Kong designers to have access to where the products are made. The Hong Kong Federation of Design Association Secretary General Freeman Lau Said that Shenzhen is a city that is filled with entrepreneurship and many of these enterprises are establishing their brand names by creating more creative designs as there is a huge potential for cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
Hong Kong government is sponsoring this year’s biennale and has handed out $HK$ million and the government invested another $HK 5 million for studying the design industries of the two cities. Then an online platform will be created that will pool the design resources of Hong Kong and Shenzhen along with design forums.
