Shenzhen to Boost and Strengthen Higher Education by Building New University
The city is planning to build another university of science and technology in hopes to boost and strengthen higher education. The university will be accepting enroll students coming from vocational schools and its education focus will highlight on practical skills. Although no details in its location and when it will open have been announced yet.
Even with the city proposing to create two vocational institutes in their 12th five year plan for education no actions have been made yet on reaching that target. Then in July the issue is brought up once again during the two vocational education conferences that were held recently in the city. The city also has two leading vocational education institutes the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology and the Shenzhen Polytechnic. These two vocational schools are seeing their numbers of enrollees increasing in the years but still they cannot meet the demands for vocational education.
A city college covered by the Shenzhen University is currently under construction and once finished it will be able to accommodate higher education demands coming from local students. Like other cities in China, Shenzhen vocational education it at a bottleneck and is creating a higher education opportunities will be its top priority.
The city education authority also admitted that several of their city’s vocational schools is facing a number of difficulties ranging from poor infrastructure, outdated course setting that fail to provide the required talents and a weak teaching faculty. The education bureau stated that it will expand their vocational education scale and encourage social resources and invest in vocational education in the next three years.
