Quake Hit Ludian Gets Assistance from City Residents and OrganizationsAccording to the city’s civil affairs bureau, Shenzhen enterprises and organizations pooled together and donated cash and supplies that reached more tha n50 million yuan for the quake git town of Ludian in Yunnan. A 6.5 magnitude earthquake which they said to be the most powerful quake to hit the town in 14 years have injured and destroyed thousands of homes in Ludian County in Zhaotong City last August 3.

Just after the quake hit the Shenzhen Municipal Government gave 5 million yuan in donations, together with the donations that came from local residents, enterprises and organizations. The Shenzhen Charity Federation has already raised 6.6 million yuan in donations and One Foundation was able to raise 3.3 million yuan. The civil affairs bureau held a press conference that encouraged local residents to assist the people living in Ludian while other enterprises have donated emergency supplies, medicine, power generators and water purifiers.

Residents and volunteers that want to help the victims are asked to donate money rather than goods in order to finance any post disaster relief and reconstruction. All donated items and equipment collected will be sent to Ludian and individuals are discouraged to bring their donations themselves to prevent any confusion.
