Shenzhen is Second Most Walkable City After Hong Kong
Shenzhen has been rated as the second most walkable city in China after Hong Kong. The report was based on a study done by the Natural Resources Defense Council in which they studied 35 cities in China by walking around, observing safety, comfortableness, government management and convenience that resulted in the most walkable cities that is located in the southeastern China.
Hong Kong was named the most walkable city as its residents doesn’t need any vehicles to commute around the city, followed by Shenzhen and then Shanghai ranks third. Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Dalian are considered walkable cities, meanwhile Beijing, Jinan and Chongqing are noted as cities that are suitable for walking. While Erdos, Hegang, Turfan and Changshu are categorized were cities that are not suitable for walking.
The use of urban land is related to the walkability of a city in which a resident or visitor has easy access to public transport along with pedestrian friendly facilities. The vice president of the China City Development Research Institute Zhu Pide, that Shenzhen should look into tightening administration over its vehicles and leave more sidewalk spaces open for its pedestrians as the city plans to further improve its walkability
