Agreement Between Two Universities Signed for Strategic PartnershipThe University of California has partnered with Tsinghua University and launched the Tsinghua-UC Berkeley Shenzhen Institute. Based on an agreement that was signed yesterday is an addendum for a strategic partnership that is signed by the two universities in 2012 and is focused in developing research and education programs in the city.

The two institutes will be exploring the areas of nanotechnology and nanomedicine, data science, low carbon technology, new energy technology and the next generation internet. The programs are expected to be launched before the year ends. The institute will be recruiting top researchers around the globe and conduct innovative and cutting edge research with the active participation of graduate students.

The president of UC Berkeley Nicholas Dirks is impressed with the city’s achievements in the past 34 years. Dirks said that the research program will allow UC Berkeley and Tsinghua graduate students to spend some time at the institute for one year of research and study. Participating UC Berkeley graduate students can study at the Tsinghua University and hold internships with companies in Shenzhen to gain international experience. Tsinghua students can also benefit from the joint research that will be supervised by both faculties.
