City Issues Emergency Response In Preparation for Typhoon Kalmaegi
The city is initiating a level-IV emergency response to help cope with the effects of Typhoon Kalmaegi which is so far the strongest typhoon to hit Shenzhen this year. Typhoon Kalmaegi is said to make landfall along the coast between Yangjiang City of Guangdong and Wanning of Hainan today.
According to the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory, China have a four level typhoon emergency response system, in which level I is said to be the highest of the emergency response while level IV is the lowest. Party chief Wang Rong and city mayor Xu Qin gave orders to all related departments to brace of the arrival of the typhoon. Ships are called back to port and coastal parks were ordered closed as of 6 pm yesterday.
Kalmaegi is the 15th typhoon to hit the city this year and was seen 350 kilometers was from Shenzhen earlier today and brought heavy rain between 40 to 70 millimeters to the city as of yesterday and today. The Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory is expected to issua a yellow alert late last night and required schools to close.
Several flights to Haikou from Shenzhen yesterday were cancelled along with other flights that were scheduled to leave today.
